This #GivingTuesday, please help me raise money for Mil Milagros to support the Indigenous Maya leaders who are improving health and education in rural Guatemala.

In rural Guatemala, 80% of the Indigenous Maya live in poverty, and Indigenous women have an average of only 3 years of formal schooling.

When women don't have access to education and employment, their families suffer: children get sick, students drop out of school, and the cycle repeats itself in the next generation.

But, when they have the opportunity to build a better future for themselves and their families, women can break the cycle, and whole communities can thrive.

Mil Milagros’ work means a lot to me because [share why you’re involved with Mil Milagros].

Thank you in advance for your support!

This #GivingTuesday, join me in believing in women and their ability to effect change. Guatemala is one of the most unequal countries in the world, and Indigenous Maya women are the most likely to live in poverty. But I believe that, with the right resources and education, these women can rise out of poverty for good.

This is why I’m raising money for @milmilagrosinc, a nonprofit that develops the leadership potential of Indigenous Maya women and mothers so that they can improve health and education in rural Guatemala.

Hi [Potential Donor Name],

I hope you’re doing well. [Personalize]

I’m reaching out to ask for your help on behalf of Indigenous Maya families.  In rural Guatemala, 80% of the Indigenous Maya live in poverty, and Indigenous women have an average of only 3 years of formal schooling. When women don't have access to education and employment, their families suffer: children get sick, students drop out of school, and the cycle repeats itself in the next generation.

This is why I’m raising money for Mil Milagros. Mil Milagros develops the leadership potential of Indigenous Maya women so that they can improve health and education in rural Guatemala. This year, Mil Milagros women leaders have ensured that families and communities have access to critical early childhood resources, improved foundational literacy, and involved almost 300 mothers, teachers, and students in critical public health awareness.

Mil Milagros’ work means a lot to me because [share why you’re involved with Mil Milagros].

I hope that you’ll join me in supporting this wonderful organization by contributing to my fundraiser [insert link here].

All the best,

Our Impact

Indigenous women are the most historically excluded group in Guatemala. They have lower incomes, higher illness rates, and worse general outcomes than any other group.

Upon being hired at Mil Milagros, Community Coordinators more than triple their household income, gain access to healthcare, and increase their confidence as they implement life-changing programs in their communities.

7 in 10 Indigenous children in rural areas are chronically malnourished.

Last year, we saw a 13% reduction in severe chronic malnutrition.

Only 40% of sixth grade students nationally reach the national reading standards.

58% of children in our partner schools are reading on grade level.

Only 28% of Indigenous women in Guatemala use modern methods of family planning.

78% of women who graduated from the Women's Health course opted for long-term contraceptives.

In Guatemala

• Only 56% of children graduate from primary school

• 7 in 10 Indigenous children in rural areas are chronically malnourished

• The Indigenous have been victims of persistent racism and discrimination, affecting their educational and health    outcomes

• Restrictions on travel, businesses, and tourism due to the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many to lose their livelihood and struggle to put food on the table for their families.

Our Impact

• 97% of sixth graders have graduated from our partner schools

• Last year, we reduced severe chronic malnutrition by 31% in    babies and toddlers

• More than 4,500 Indigenous community leaders have been trained in early childhood development, nutrition, hygiene, and literacy.

• We have delivered 16,000 baskets of food and hygiene    supplies to 1,605 children and their families
